How We Select Your Liverock

When an order for liverock comes through, we first consider how many pounds has been ordered and how likely it is for a customer to need larger vs. smaller rocks.  For example, if someone orders 40lbs, we can safely assume that large rocks will be fine.  If the order says 10lbs, it is more likely to be two 5lb rocks that are needed.  Should you actually need just one 10lb rock, please note that in the comments section, we are happy to oblige!

TRF Liverock as a Filter

Liverock performs an extremely important function in our reefs – it is the BEST filter we have!  Providing that it is porous enough for the necessary amount of anaerobic bacteria to grow, AND that it has enough flow going through it to make that beneficial.  TRF Liverock is extremely porous, take care when ordering as you may be surprised how much you will get for how many pounds you order!  In addition to over 15 year old bacteria from our extremely mature reefs, you will also get at least one color of coralline algae, maybe more!  The most common colors for us are purple and red.  Sponges, pods, or other beneficial hitchhikers are guaranteed to be nestled in the cracks for extra nutrient export.
